3 Online Skills You Can Learn With Just Your Phone

 

At the time  I started learning how to make money online, I didn’t have a laptop, I didn’t have a mentor, and I definitely didn’t have any money to invest.


All I had was my phone, curiosity, and a drive to make it. That’s it.

And looking back now, I’m glad I didn’t wait till everything was perfect, you can always start with what you have.


So today, I'm going to show you 3 digital skills you can learn and start earning from, straight from your phone. This is for if you’re a student, stay-at-home mum, or someone who’s just trying to start something for yourself.

  1.  Content Writing
Content is king
Content writing.


As you can already tell from my previous posts, this is the skill that opened the door for me.

Content writing is simply the ability to write helpful, engaging content for businesses, blogs, websites, or social media through captions, blog posts, newsletters, even product descriptions and reviews.


Fortunately, with the advancement and popularity of AI written content, You don’t need to sound like Shakespeare or sound sophisticated and perfect to be able to dabble into Content writing. You just need to write in a way that makes people understand or feel something. And you can start learning it completely free.


How to learn it on your phone:


  • Watch short tutorials on YouTube about writing for the web
  • Take free courses on hubspot or Alison.
  • Follow content writers on LinkedIn or Twitter and study how they write
  • Practice by rewriting captions or blog posts you see online

You can make use apps like Google Docs to type and Grammarly to correct mistakes. I personally use WPS office.

What you can to do with the knowledge later:


  • Write for businesses, blogs, or even start your own, Just like the one you are reading now.

  • Offer freelance writing services

  • Become a content strategist (like I did!)


   2. Social Media Management

Social media has come to stay. So is the responsibility that comes with it.


This one is everywhere, but people still don’t fully get it.


Social media management means handling the online presence of a brand or person. That includes posting content, replying to comments, handling DMs, creating captions, and sometimes even designing graphics. 

The beauty of Social media management is the fact that it's a kind of everlasting business model (as long as there are new and emerging brands, businesses and CEO's, they will ALWAYS need a Social media manager and strategist).

How to learn it on your phone:

  • Take free courses on social media managementd strategy on sites like Hubspot and Alison. There are a  ton of other platforms that offer free courses but I'm citing examples of those I'm familiar with.

  • Use Canva to create simple posts

  • Download Meta Business Suite to schedule and manage Facebook + Instagram. Apps like Metricool is also great for scheduling and beginner friendly.

  • Study small business pages and analyze what they’re doing well
  • Practice by offering to help a friend or family member’s business for free or a token.


What you can do with this knowledge later:


  • Get paid to manage business pages


  • Start a small agency


  • Offer packages for posts, strategy, and scheduling

  • Become a page promoter or advert consultant and Strategist


  3. UGC (User-Generated Content)

User Generated Content


This is a fast-growing, lucrative skill and honestly, a very beginner-friendly one.


UGC is when you create honest photos or videos reviewing or showcasing a product you already use. Think of it like content brands can repost instead of ads. 

It doesn't involve fancy filming. Just you, your phone, and your voice.


How to learn it on your phone:


  • Record videos using your phone camera


  • Edit with apps like CapCut or InShot


  • Watch how other creators show off products without being salesy on YouTube or Tiktok


  • Start with items in your kitchen, room, or what you wear/use daily


What you can do with this knowledge later:


  • Get paid by brands to create their content


  • Build a portfolio and reach out to small businesses


  • Start earning with just your phone and natural voice

  • Enter competition or contest for best UGC. It's usually conducted by brands during specific periods

Be you. The world will adjust.


In Conclusion, you don’t need a PAID course right now. You don’t need ₦100k.

You don’t even need a laptop.


You just need your phone, discipline, and a little bit of boldness to show up consistently.


And the best part? You can start today.

Not next week. 

Not after NYSC. 

Not when your kids resume school.

Today.
